Registration Process

Registering on the Precious Metals Online website is a two-step process. Please note you may attempt to register 2 times in any 72 hour period.

Step 1: First, you must fill out the online registration form with all required information, including your name, address, phone number and date of birth. CIBC uses this information for its Know Your Customer process.

We also require your occupation and banking information for anti-money laundering purposes, described in Step 2 of the process.

You will also be asked to set your personal security questions and answers, which can be used to reset your password if you ever forget it.

All your personal information is protected under CIBC’s privacy policy, which is available at www.cibc.com.

Based on the name, address, and date of birth provided on the registration form, your identity will be compared to the information in your Equifax file. This is achieved through Equifax’s eIDcompare®, a secure internet-based service provided by Equifax which authenticates your identity in real-time and aids in mitigating potential identity fraud. It is not a credit check.

This patented interactive process compares information entered against reliable sources to validate your identity and determine whether your identity has been reported as misused or associated with potential fraudulent activity. For more information on eIDcompare®, visit the Equifax website.

If you do not pass the Equifax identify verification process due to inaccurate information on your file, please contact Equifax at 1-800-465-7166. Please note you may attempt to pass this step 2 times in any 72 hour period.

Step 2: As a Canadian financial institution, we are obligated to confirm that you hold a valid Canadian deposit account with a financial institution in Canada.

Once you successfully pass the Equifax questionnaire, CIBC will contact the financial institution provided on your registration form to obtain confirmation of your deposit account.

You will be contacted by a CIBC representative within 30 minutes for CIBC clients between:

7 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. EST Monday to Thursday

7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST on Fridays

8 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. EST on Sunday

For non-CIBC clients, this can take up to 12 hours.
